Seven Legends to Attend World Cup Draw

FIFA announced this Tuesday that seven legendary football icons, including Fabio Cannavaro and Diego Maradona, will serve as official draw assistants at the 2018 FIFA World Cup draw ceremony.

The event is scheduled to take place on December 1 at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow. Previously, FIFA had confirmed that English football legend Gary Lineker would co-host the draw alongside respected Russian journalist Maria Komandnaya. Russian great Nikita Simonyan had already been named as one of the draw assistants, and now the full lineup has been revealed.

Joining Simonyan are seven footballing giants: Fabio Cannavaro, Gordon Banks, Carles Puyol, Diego Forlán, Cafu, Laurent Blanc, and Diego Maradona. These legends will participate in the ceremony alongside Miroslav Klose, representing eight different nations that have lifted the World Cup trophy. FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The draw is always an exciting moment. I’m thrilled that each World Cup-winning nation will have a representative at the ceremony. This lineup is a true testament to the history and spirit of the tournament.”

All 32 teams that will compete in the Russia 2018 World Cup have now been finalized, following the conclusion of the qualifying stages last week. The tournament is set to kick off on June 14 and run through July 15, taking place across 11 host cities throughout Russia.
